"Frampton" was the breakthrough where everything came together: Peter Frampton's penchant for writing catchy songs with irresistible hooks, his superior guitar playing and soulful vocals. "Frampton" is also the album where he introduced one of his trademarks, the "talk box", on "Show Me the Way", which became a trademark during the tour for this album. In addition to "Show Me the Way," "Baby, I Love Your Way" and "(I'll Give You) Money" also became radio and live hits.
Shane Buettner of Intervention Records worked for months with Universal's archival team, scouring archives in the U.S. and U.K. for the best-sounding tapes. Several tape sets, including tape copies from the 1970s, were sent for mastering and evaluated by Buettner and mastering pro Chris Bellman.
The best tapes are 1/2" security copies from the 1990s A&M security program. They sound sensational, dynamic, detailed and vibrant. Combined with Chris Bellman's work on the mixing console and the superb mastering chain at Bernie Grundman Mastering, this hybrid SACD finally lets you hear what Peter Frampton and his band really put on tape.
